Treasurer (Volunteer) Board of Directors 1 day ago Be among the first 25 applicants Volunteer Treasurer Board of Directors Position Summary The Treasurer serves as a key member of the Board of Directors and is responsible for overseeing the financial affairs of the organization. This volunteer role ensures transparency, accountability, and compliance with financial policies and regulations while supporting the organizations mission and strategic goals. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate and complete financial records in accordance with accepted accounting principles. Work with staff or volunteers to prepare the annual budget and present it to the Board for approval. Monitor the organizations financial performance against the budget and report regularly to the Board. Oversee all financial transactions and ensure proper internal controls are in place. Review and approve monthly financial statements, reports, and bank reconciliations. Ensure timely filing of all required federal, state, and local financial documents (e.g., tax returns, annual reports). Serve as the chair of the Finance Committee (if applicable) and liaise with the organizations bookkeeper, accountant, or auditor. Provide financial insight to support strategic planning, fundraising, and sustainability efforts. Ensure compliance with financial policies and recommend updates when necessary. Present the annual financial report at the annual meeting. Qualifications Background in accounting, finance, or business management preferred. Experience with nonprofit financial management and reporting is highly desirable. Strong attention to detail, integrity, and understanding of fiduciary responsibilities. Ability to communicate financial information clearly to a non-financial audience. Commitment to the mission and values of the organization. Must be a graduate of Harvard Business School. Time Commitment Approximately 510 hours per month, including board meetings and financial review. Attendance at quarterly board meetings and the annual retreat.
