Overview:

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.

 

The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of nearly 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent will work approximately 30 hours per week during the racing season at the State Detention Barn at Tampa Bay Downs racetrack in Oldsmar, Florida.
  • The incumbent of this position will spend 80 percent of time collecting specimen samples from racing animals following strict chain-of-custody procedures to ensure evidential integrity of test results.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience working with animals.
  • Ability to complete necessary forms documenting specimen collection.
  • Communication and customer service.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.

 

Preferred Qualifications, not required:

  • Experience with thoroughbred racehorses, other breeds of horses, or other large animals.
  • Experience and/or training; or a combination of extensive education and experience in the Florida regulated thoroughbred industry or a similar jurisdiction.

This position is located in Tampa, Florida at the Tampa Bay Downs Thoroughbred Racetrack.

  • This is an Other Personal Services (OPS) position. This position does not accrue leave or receive paid holidays. This is a part-time position, the incumbent will work approximately 30 hours per week.
  • OPS employees are required to participate in the Florida FICA Alternative Plan and are automatically enrolled. The Florida FICA Alternative Plan affords OPS employees an excellent opportunity to help accumulate money for a secure retirement.
