Overview

Pay range per hour is $25.25 - $42.95. Pay is based on factors including labor markets and may include education, work experience and certifications. ALL ABOUT GENERAL MERCHANDISE

Experts of operations, process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, merchandised and available, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all GM areas of the store. This team also leads inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and pricing processes for all areas of the store, and may also lead Food & Beverage and Food Service, providing a fresh and food-safe experience. Experts enable efficient delivery of merchandise to guests by owning pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

• Guest service fundamentals and experience building a guest-first culture on your team
• Retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies
• Leading a team by planning department daily/weekly workload to support priorities and deliver sales goals, with process improvements and improved workload efficiency
• Leading a team of hourly team members including interviewing, developing, coaching, evaluating and retaining talent
• Coaching and training hourly team members to build a team under direction from your leader

As a General Merchandise Team Leader, a typical day will include the following responsibilities:

• Execute daily/weekly workload to deliver department and store sales goals and guest engagement, including merchandising, pricing, setting and updating merchandise displays, sampling, promotions and price changes
• Educate the team on operational procedures such as setting up and organizing merchandise, managing stock levels, and maintaining sales floor areas to affect inventory, store profitability and product availability
• Help assess reporting to identify gaps in GM processes and assist in developing plans for your leader to review and approve
• Be an expert of operations, accuracy, process and efficiency
• With your leader's guidance, lead daily execution of tasks such as receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas
• Assist and lead inventory accuracy, merchandise setup and maintenance, and pricing for all store areas
• Assign daily tasks to team members based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns
• Help establish clear goals and hold team members accountable to expectations
• Lead efficient delivery to guests by overseeing pick, pack and ship fulfillment work (as applicable) and assess fulfillment reporting to identify gaps and develop a plan
• Collaborate with all teams to identify priorities and ensure the store is guest-ready in alignment with leadership direction
• Stay informed about trends and products to educate team members via Target communications
• Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest-centric team, modeling best onboarding and learning practices; help close skill gaps through development and coaching
• Work a schedule that aligns to guest and business needs (early morning, evening, overnight shifts and weekends)

The good news is that we have extensive training to help you succeed as a General Merchandise Team Leader. Pre-requisites include:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Age 18 or older
• Previous retail experience preferred but not required
• Ability to lead and hold others accountable
• Effective communication and ability to use handheld scanners and other technology as directed
• Work independently and as part of a team; manage workload and prioritize tasks
• Remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within timeframes
• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and team members
• Ability to interpret instructions and reports, handle cash register operations as needed
• Climb ladders as needed; scan, handle and move merchandise safely, with lifting up to 44 pounds
• Flexible schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) with reliable attendance
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions; mobility for shift duration
